Learning about Coffee at Nerd Nite

Last night at Nerd Nite, we learned about coffee from Katy.  Katy knows a lot about coffee.  Besides working at the Pig, Katy worked in Columbia as a coffee bean picker.  She explained what kinds of beans are best for premium coffee.  Beans that are grown high in altitude and in the forest have the sweetest and richest flavor. The high altitude keeps more oils in the beans because the climate tends to be cooler, and the forest beans are naturally fertilized by bird droppings.  During the harvest season, families pick the beans and are paid by the pound. The beans are processed by small local factories.

Last night, we also went to the Spencer Museum for some sort of reception (we're not sure what it was for, but enjoyed the great catered food).  Here are some pics from these events.
