Tonight's Events and a tribute to Todd Karnahan

Two events worth going to tonight are Nerd Nite and Studio Burlesque.
Here is the information for both of these events: 
Nerd Nite at the Star Bar: Doors Open at 7:30, Talks around 8:00 The Face book invite says "Yeah, it's going to be great."  https://www.facebook.com/nerdnitelawrence

Sudio Burleque: Starts at 7:30 at the Lawrence Arts Center.  Artists will draw performers by Foxy by Proxy, who will model in costume.  A DJ will play music.  Bring drawing supplies.  Photographers welcome.  Cost; $6.00. 


We will team up with our friends at the Larryville Chronicles to adequately cover both events and report on Friday.

On a sad note:
This week, we heard about the death of Todd Karnahan.  Here is a short tribute. 



Todd was instrumental in starting the Punk Rods and the Greaserama car show, a favorite among greasers, punks, and rockabilly scenesters.  Originally starting with "5 dozen rods, kustoms, and vintage beaters, " the Greaserama show became a yearly event. 

This is what Todd wrote about the history of the Punk Rods on the website page:
The Punk Rods was conceived in 1998 by me and Punk Rod Paul, while hanging out where I worked- Lawrence's now defunct "Hi Jinx Lounge" swing and rockabilly bar.  By 2000, we had made up the club shirts and jackets.  By 2001 the opportunity to use KC's punk rock club El Torreon for music fest and daytime car show presented itself.  It was an idea I'd wanted to implement since the Hi-Jinx days to do a "Greaser's Ball" type of show sponsored by my pomade company: American Greaser Supply.  It didn't take much thinkin' to come up with the moniker "K"owtwon "C"ustom Greaserama for the 2001 show.  It was around 20 bands and a small art show.

Todd Karnahan fought cancer without medical insurance for years. His loving and devoted wife, Leslie, did everything in her power to aid his battle. Any help to the family is greatly appreciated.
