LFK Scavenger Hunt and Diebenkorn's figure drawing
We love this scavenger hunt posted at the Lawrence Public Library website. The scavenger hunt includes a map with stars of iconic Lawrence sites, and pics underneath to match. Although the scavenger hunt is meant for teens, we imagine any scenester would like to play this summer walking game.
Find the complete map and pics here:

Diebenkorn's Figure Drawing
We were looking at Richard Diebenkorn's drawings and were curious about their compositions. Although they seem like they are simple drawings, in reality, they are very complex. Often, heads, feet, or arms are often cut off, and the frames are sometimes square. The lights and darks are balanced well. Take a look:

Lawrence Artist Jason Barr
We love this new watercolor by scenester Jason Barr. The commission asked for "zombies staying healthy." His work will be made into a poster that will promote healthy choices for kids.

Sneak peek at the new Invisible Hand and Interview in KC
We are getting glimpses of the new space for The Invisible Hand, which is one of our favorite Lawrence galleries. The Invisible Hand will move from its spot on Massachusetts Street to its East Lawrence location very soon. The East Lawrence location will have more open space, and the framing part of the business will be in another location. Adam sent this pic to us via twitter:

On Thursday, we took a field trip to Kansas City to do an interview about the current show at the Arts Center, Body of Work, for the KCUR show Up to Date. We brought along our favorite model Kent who answered questions about what it is like to be a naked in front of other people. You can listen to the podcast of this interview via the KCUR website Here: http://kcur.org/post/body-art-human-form
After the interview, we went to lunch with Frank Morris who showed us a famous hipster street in KC where Dr. Sketchy artists go. We ate at YJ's and shopped at Birdies.

An outdoor library idea is something twitter's wonderful @bananasuit would love. Installed in the middle of a Belgian vineyard, the library, entitled Bookyard was built by Italian artist Massimo Bartolini for a Belgian art festival. For this outdoor installation, one can bring a blanket, drink wine, and choose a book to read.

We are nerding out to this 1938 movie about how the human eye sees light and color which comes to us via twitter @brainpicker
We are able to see mixtures of two-color rays as one color. We don’t need green light in order to see green, and we don’t need orange light to make us see orange. Mixtures of blue and yellow light and yellow and red light will create green and orange for us. To make the eyes see all color, then, only the three primaries — red, yellow, and blue — need be used. From these primaries, a complete color circle can be created. That is why it is possible to reproduce the brilliant colors of nature, faithfully, with just three primary colors in modern color reproducing processes.

The Lawrence Sketchbook Project
This summer, artists in Lawrence will keep sketchbooks for the Lawrence Sketchbook Project. This local project, based on the sketchbook project that is traveling throughout the US, will feature Lawrence artists' sketchbooks. Although in the beginning stages, the plan is that these sketchbooks will be displayed in the fall at the Lawrence Public Library, accessible to viewers like a periodical. We will keep you updated on this project as it progresses.

An event we went to on Friday impressed us. An improv performance hosted by Riv Averill was given at the Arts Center in the gallery exhibiting the figure show Body of Work. The audience was asked to pick a work of art that the group would improvise through music, poetry, and dance. We especially liked Ellie's dance to Amber Hansen's video work.

Lawrence Art Queen K.T. Walsh
Artist and East Lawrence advocate K.T. Walsh is like art royalty in Lawrence. K T. has made her house an art project, using found objects as art that is displayed in her yard and inside her house.
We visited her the other day. She wasn't home, but we loved her latest art environments and took some pics of work in her front yard.
